Why Namor Could In no way Get a Standalone Film Next His MCU Debut in ‘Wakanda Forever’

Black Panther: Wakanda Without end released a new villain to the Marvel Cinematic Universe — Namor (Tenoch Huerta). The Sub-Mariner is a Yucatec Mayan mutant-hybrid who rules the underwater realm of Talokan — which, like Wakanda, is rich in vibranium. He was intended to look in the conclusion credits scene of the first Black Panther movie, teasing his arrival in the sequel. But, that concept was scrapped for the correct very same cause why the character could under no circumstances get a standalone movie.

‘Black Panther’ didn’t tease Namor’s arrival, but ‘Avengers: Endgame’ did (sort of)

The MCU is identified for its Easter eggs, so it need to come as no surprise to lovers that Namor’s arrival was seemingly teased in Avengers: Endgame. As Gamesradar factors out, it occurred in the course of a meeting at Avengers headquarters after Thanos’ snap. Black Widow led the discussion, together with the holograms of Captain Marvel, Rocket Raccoon, and Okoye.

When Natasha asks about the “tremors” influencing Wakanda, Okoye tells her, “It was a delicate subduction less than the African plate.”

“How are you dealing with it?” Natasha asks, to which Okoye replies, “It’s an earthquake under the ocean. We handle it by not managing it.”

This brief instant was seemingly an Easter egg that teased Namor’s arrival in Wakanda Endlessly. But, according to writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley, that scene was not really a Namor reference.

“I would like we were being that smart,” Markus instructed The Hollywood Reporter.

Why Namor may well never ever get a standalone movie immediately after his debut in ‘Wakanda Forever’

Director Joe Russo claimed that the scene was “maybe” a trace that Namor was coming, but it was in no way a affirmation. The purpose is, the legal rights to the character partly belong to Universal Studios.

In simple fact, Namor was intended to be in a Black Panther article-credits scene that would have highlighted the Wakanda throne with moist footprints major up to it. But, Marvel could not tease the character’s arrival at that stage due to the fact of the character rights situation with Universal.

It wasn’t right until a 12 months just after the launch of Avengers: Endgame that Marvel was able to function out his visual appearance in Black Panther 2, when they secretly employed Huerta in 2020. Director Ryan Coogler announced his casting, confirming Namor’s arrival in the MCU.

Having said that, Marvel and Common still share the character rights. So, the probabilities of Namor having a standalone motion picture are trim.
