Bay Area man accused of robbing neighbor of hearing aids

San Rafael police arrested a man accused of robbing his neighbor of hearing-aid implants.

The incident was reported around 10:35 p.m. on Saturday on Lea Drive near Forrest Lane in Terra Linda, police Sgt. Justin Graham said. Neighbors called to report a disturbance and someone yelling for help.

The altercation started when the suspect shined a cellphone light in the victim’s face as he stood outside his home smoking.

The victim felt threatened and pushed the phone away, Graham said. A scuffle ensued and the suspect pulled the hearing aids off the victim and refused to return them. The victim was able to recover one of the devices.

Igor Scherba, 57, was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of robbery and drunk in public and disorderly conduct.

Scherba was a seasonal wrestling coach at Marin Catholic High School during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons. He could not be reached for comment.
