MARTINEZ — A 47-year-old man has been charged with shooting a 4-year-old in what Pittsburg police described as a “road rage” incident, court records show.
Urbicio Legaspi-Flores was charged Thursday with shooting at an occupied motor vehicle and child abuse. The charging records allege the young boy suffered “great bodily injury” in the shooting, but doesn’t further describe his condition.
Pittsburg police said in a news release Wednesday that Legaspi-Flores wounded the boy in an Aug. 21 shooting that was over a dispute between drivers. He was arrested Wednesday on an unrelated gun possession charge and later identified as a suspect in the shooting.
The police news release says the car was “full of kids” when Legaspi-Flores allegedly opened fire at it, but doesn’t say where or what time of day the shooting took place. Police did not immediately respond to requests for further details.
Similarly, police have not said how Legaspi-Flores was linked to the shooting.
Legaspi-Flores is being held in the Martinez Detention Facility in lieu of $1.47 million bail, prosecutors said. He is due in court Friday morning at the AF Bray Courthouse in Martinez.
