Crockett: Sig-alert after Carquinez Bridge car fire, collision

CROCKETT — California Highway Patrol officers were responding to a car fire and collision Tuesday atop the Carquinez Bridge that blocked all Interstate 80 lanes, authorities said.

Shortly before 9 p.m., CHP officers responded to reports of the collision, possibly associated with unspecified police activity, in eastbound I-80 lanes just east of the Pomona Street exit.

Crockett-Carquinez Fire Department firefighters also responded to the incident, saying in a social-media post that two vehicles’ fires had been contained and that multiple ambulances were on scene.

The CHP issued a Sig-alert at 9 p.m. with no estimated time of reopening, and worked to divert eastbound traffic west at Cummings Skyway.

Officers suggested eastbound Highway 4 to northbound I-680 and the Benicia Bridge as an alternate route for drivers.

Check back for updates.
