Danville’s ‘America’s Got Talent’ star Sophie Pecora releases her first EP

Sophie Pecora, the young Danville singer-songwriter who captivated millions of TV viewers last year on “America’s Got Talent,” has released her first EP.

Titled “Raise the Bar,” the independently produced EP dropped on Friday and features six songs, including “7th Grade,” a song about schoolyard bullying that earned her Brad Paisley’s Golden Buzzer pick on “AGT.”

In an Instagram post, Pecora, 16, wrote, “My first ever EP is out now!! I really just want to spread positivity and hope in this world. I hope these songs make you feel something good.”

Pecora has been performing live and writing songs since she was 9 years old. But her first big breakthrough came last summer when she wowed the judges on “AGT.” Taking the stage with her acoustic guitar, she touched hearts as she sang and rapped her way through self-written tunes that exhibited the kind of nimble wordplay, social awareness and compassion rarely found in someone so young.

Among the songs she performed on “AGT” was “Misfits” (also included on the EP), which touched upon issues of teen angst, body image and self-worth, and featured an uplifting line that insisted, “Someone else’s beauty doesn’t take away from your own.”

Those “AGT” appearances have helped Pecora attain an impressive social media fan base. Her YouTube videos have generated over 15 million views, and her TikTok site has more than 15.5 million likes. Last year, “7th Grade” took first place in the Teen Category of the prestigious International Songwriting Competition.
