Downtown Oakland bank robbed

OAKLAND — A downtown bank was robbed Monday morning, police said.

The robbery happened about 11:11 a.m. at the Mechanics Bank, 1999 Harrison Street in the Lake Merritt Plaza building.

Police said a man gave a teller a note that demanded cash and said that no one would be hurt if the teller complied.  No weapons were seen.

The teller gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash and he fled on foot.

No one was hurt.

A detailed description of the robber was not available.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $2,500 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the robber. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3326 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
