As Kim Kardashian and Kanye West negotiate what’s being described as an “amicable” divorce, they are reportedly committed to co-parenting their four children.

But that doesn’t mean that each parent will put in 50-50 time when it comes to caregiving, with a source telling E! News that the rapper “hasn’t been around much.”
The four children have mostly been living with Kardashian, 40, at the couple’s mansion in Calabasas, while West, 43, has spent much of the past year at his ranch in Wyoming, E! News said. Over the summer and fall, the rapper and fashion designer also was occupied with his bizarre and failed run for U.S. president, which reportedly was “the straw the broke the camel’s back” in their marriage.
The result of West’s absences is that their oldest daughter, North, 7, has some understanding of what it means for her parents to divorce, a source told E! News.
“But mostly the kids have always seen them apart so it isn’t super surprising,” the source added. In addition to North, the couple’s other children are sons, Saint, 5, and Psalm, 1, and daughter, Chicago, 3.
A separate source close to Kardashian told E! News: “Kim expressed to (the kids) that she loves their dad but they need to be apart. They don’t fully understand what’s going on and are already used to the situation.”
West’s struggles with bipolar disorder also had been a concern, especially after a breakdown over the summer apparently caused him to launch a series of tirades at a campaign rally and on social media, according to Page Six. During the episode, which was confirmed by Kardashian, the rapper accused her of infidelity, referred to his mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, as “Kris Jong-Un,” and claimed that he and Kardashian considered aborting their oldest daughter, North West, when the pregnancy was discovered.

A source told People at the time that Kardashian was “shocked that Kanye spoke about North at the rally,” and she was “furious that he shared something so private.”
Still, Kardashian publicly defended her husband, saying, “Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand.” She added that her husband is “a brilliant but complicated person” and explained he is a good person and that some of his more incendiary comments “do not align with his intentions.”
With divorce now looming, Kardashian believes that West is a good father and “totally trusts him” with the children, a source told TMZ. The couple have agreed to share legal and physical custody, TMZ added.
