Kelly Osbourne, who offered support following Demi Lovato’s apparent overdose, marks a year of sobriety

Kelly Osbourne opened up about the difficulties she endured the past year as she marked a year of sobriety Thursday.

The former “Osbournes” posted an image of her twelve-step app on Instagram and Twitter and shared details about her “really dark” times she went through before getting clean, according to People.

“I gave up on everything in my life but most of all I gave up on myself,” said Osbourne, 33. “Life on life’s terms became to much for me to handle. The only way I knew how to function was to self medicate and go from project to project so I never had to focus on what was really going on with me. Something had to give… and it did.”

Osbourne said her road to sobriety began with the help of younger brother Jack Osbourne, 32.

“I want to take this time to thank my brother @jackosbourne who answered the phone to me one year ago today and picked me up from where I had fallen yet again without judgment,” she said. “He has held my hand through out this whole process.”

Osbourne was also grateful for the support of her parents, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne.

“Thank you to my Mum and Dad for never giving up on me. I love my family with all my heart,” she said.

Osbourne offered an empathetic voice following Demi Lovato’s own relapse and apparent overdose in late July.

“We know each other,” Osborne said. “Look, I will never speak on behalf of Demi because that wouldn’t be right. I can only share about what I’ve been through and what I know from myself. And that is, relapse is one of the hardest things we face as an open addict who has gone through the program and turned their life around.”

“People need to know rehab doesn’t fix you, it just helps you to get yourself on the right track. You’re never fixed. You spend your whole entire life doing everything you can to never pick up and use again,” she added.

Lovato is currently in rehab following hospitalization for an apparent overdose that had been described as nearly fatal by a number of outlets.
