More than seven months after Lily James was photographed, apparently enjoying an romantic weekend in Rome with her older married co-star, Dominic West, the two British actors face having to answer questions about their alleged affair as they promote their new project, a romantic drama series that debuts on BBC.

James, 32, already was hit with one of those questions during a new interview with The Guardian. After James discussed her role as Linda Radlett in BBC’s adaption of Nancy Mitford’s 1945 novel, the interviewer asked about West, 51: “You found yourself at the centre of a media storm last autumn. What was that like?”
James responded “Ach.” She then said, “I’m not really willing to talk about that. There is a lot to say, but not now, I’m afraid.”
No doubt, there is a lot to say, including the Daily Mail report that West’s wife Catherine FitzGerald banned him and James from working together again. That presumably means that FitzGerald also prefers that James and her husband not do media interviews together either, even if virtually.
Reports about James and West’s Roman holiday unfolded in October like a scene from a British or American drama that the two could have starred in. The two were photographed embracing and kissing while touring the sites of the Italian capital. The Daily Mail also reported that they spent two nights in a hotel suite with a panoramic view of the city, just two minutes’ walk from the Spanish steps.
The scandal came as James was linked to relationships with other famous male actors from both the U.K and the United States. She had reportedly dated “Captain America” star, Chris Evans, over the summer of 2020 but was finishing up a five-year, on-off-romance with “The Crown” star, Matt Smith.
Even more disturbing for James, she was forced to deny tabloid reports that she had an affair with Armie Hammer, The Sun reported in January. She and Hammer co-starred as the married DeWinters in the Netflix adaptation of “Rebecca,” which was released at the same time that the photos of her with West were published.

Crews working on the set of “Rebecca” in the South of France and England reported that James and Hammer “behaved as if they were a couple” during filming, The Sun reported. Hammer’s now-estranged wife, Elizabeth Chambers, also became suspicious of how close James and her husband had become, The Sun said. Vanity Fair further reported that Hammer’s wife filed for divorce in July after discovering evidence he had been having an affair with a co-star.
Hammer has since been embroiled in his own lurid scandal involving his reported descriptions of rape and cannibalism fantasies in text messages and allegations that he was emotionally and physically abusive …read more
