Major delays on BART after equipment, track obstruction issues

An equipment problem on a BART train and an obstruction on the tracks were causing major delays for the transit system between San Francisco and Antioch on Tuesday, officials for the agency said.

The delay affected trains going in both directions, officials said.

BART official said an obstruction on the tracks near the Colma station was affecting trains on the San Francisco line going toward Antioch, and that an equipment problem was affecting trains on the Antioch line toward San Francisco.

Officials did not say immediately what was obstructing the tracks or what equipment failed. BART was recovering from the situation at the Colma station, officials said.
