OAKLAND — A 45-year-old San Francisco man violently beaten during an attempted robbery in North Oakland last month has died from his injuries, authorities said.
He was identified by police as Tawfik Mohsen.
Police said Mohsen was confronted by more than one suspect at about 3 a.m. Aug. 28 outside in the 700 block of 54th Street near Dover Street where he had been visiting relatives. The suspects attempted to rob him and violently physically assaulted him before fleeing without taking anything, police said.
Police found him unconscious on the pavement after a resident in the area reported hearing shouting. He was taken to a hospital where he died last Friday morning.
Detailed descriptions of the suspects have not been released.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrests of the suspects. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
