Pepsi-Cola is billing its newest soft drink as “the perfect apple pie you’ll never have to bake.”
But there’s a twist: If you want to become one of the first in the country to try the all-American flavor of Pepsi Apple Pie — with its notes of crisp apples, warm cinnamon, buttery crust — you have to head into the kitchen and try to bake a pie. Failures are not only encouraged but required. And then document your results via social media.
“People are failing at baking more than ever and this year, Pepsi is recognizing the unapologetic bakers who just can’t seem to get their family recipe right,” the company said Tuesday in its product announcement, which came with an amusing and smoky YouTube baking disaster video.
“Beginning today, fans can enter to win their own bottle of Pepsi Apple Pie on Pepsi Twitter or Pepsi TikTok by submitting a photo or video of their baking fail using #PepsiApplePieChallenge and following @Pepsi.”

If this sounds like a lot of work to receive one of the first 2-liter bottles of a novelty product that my or may not be on store shelves soon, well, it’s 2020. You may have time on your hands if you’ve already Marie Kondo-ed your home and traced your family history back to the Vikings.
