‘Pokemon Go’: Spheal Community Day will be worthwhile for PvP players

Spheal and its final form Walrein are about to get a big upgrade during the January 2022 Community Day. The Clap Pokemon looks goofy and the appearance of its third form is a cross between a walrus and a clown, but players should ignore the aesthetics because it will be a PvP must-have thanks to the event running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 16.

Trainers will have a high chance of catching a shiny version. The variant stands out with a distinct purple across the family line. The bigger news though is that if players evolve it to Walrein, the Ice Break Pokemon, the creature will get not one but two exclusive moves.

It will learn the Fast Move Powder Snow and the Charged Attack Icicle Spear. The two moves make Walrein a meta changer in Go Battle League. Powder Snow is an excellent Fast Move that lets players build up energy for stronger attacks such as Earthquake and Blizzard. On top of that, Icicle Spear appears to act like a pre-nerfed Weather Ball (ice), according to an analysis by Reddit user JRE47. That makes it comparable to Body Slam.

With these two moves, it becomes part of the meta in all leagues including Master League despite its subpar CP, according to JRE47’s analysis.

For PvP players, that makes getting an ideal Spheal for each league important. A Great League Rank 1 Spheal would be 0-12-15 just as long as its CP is below 1500 as a Walrein. For Ultra League, players should look for a 0-15-15 Spheal with CP low enough that it’s at 2,500 as a Walrein. If they want to compete in Master League, it’s best to have a perfect one with enough Candy XL to max it out.

The bonus for Spheal Community day is great as well. Players will get triple catch XP. Combine that with a Lucky Egg and players will get a big boost on their road to level 50. As part of the event, players can expect the usual three-hour incense and lure module activations.

As usual, it’s worthwhile to grab the Special Research Story for $1. Players usually get a good stardust haul and useful items. Meanwhile, the Community Day Box is OK with 50 Ultra Balls, five Super Incubators, five Lucky Eggs and an Elite Fast TM. …read more
