San Bruno: Two arrested on suspicion of stealing packages

SAN BRUNO – Two East Bay residents have been arrested on suspicion of stealing packages in San Bruno, police said.

Officers stopped the suspects – identified as a 41-year-old Hayward resident and a 37-year-old Oakland resident – on the 500 block of San Mateo Avenue just before 6 p.m. Saturday, said San Bruno police Cpl. Scott Smithmatungol in a news release Monday.

Smithmatungol said a search of their vehicle yielded a loaded and concealed firearm, ammunition and stolen property.

“Further investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in package thefts from several residences in the area,” he said.

The suspects were arrested and booked into San Mateo County jail on charges related to illegal weapons possession, mail theft, possession of stolen property, false identification, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal conspiracy and parole violations, Smithmatungol said.
