Timeline: Gabby Petito’s death and other dates from the road trip

The coroner in Wyoming’s Teton County said Tuesday that Gabby Petito was killed by strangulation and died three to four weeks before her body was found near an undeveloped camping area.

That would put her date of death in the range of Aug. 22 to Aug. 29.

The coroner had earlier declared her death a homicide.

Petito, 22, disappeared several weeks after leaving on a road trip with her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, 23. He returned home to Florida without her and has not been seen for almost a month.

Some other dates that have been confirmed concerning the pair’s travels:

July 2: Petito and Laundrie leave from New York on what they have planned as a four-month road trip through national parks.

Aug. 12: Petito and Laundrie are stopped by police in Arches National Park after a person reported seeing the couple involved in a physical confrontation outside a store in nearby Moab, Utah. The couple acknowledges they had a dispute, and the police help Laundrie find lodging so the two can spend the evening apart.

Aug. 17: Laundrie flies home to Florida while Petito remains in Salt Lake City. He reportedly said he wanted to get some supplies and close a storage unit because the couple was thinking of extending their trip.

Aug. 23: Laundrie flies back to Utah.

Aug. 24: Laundrie and Petito check out of a hotel in Salt Lake City.

Aug. 25: Petito’s last voice communication with her family, in New York. She says she is in Grand Teton National Park. She also tells a friend on Snapchat that she is heading to Yellowstone.

Aug. 25: Petito posts her last photo to her Instagram account.

Aug. 27: The last confirmed sighting of Petito, with Laundrie at a restaurant in Jackson, Wyoming. A woman who says she saw them there reported that Laundrie apparently got in a confrontation with a restaurant employee, that he was “angry” and Petito was “upset” and crying when they left.

Aug. 27: A couple driving at about 6 p.m.  in the Spread Creek camping area of Bridger-Teton National Forest — 30 miles from Jackson — record dashcam video that captures an image of Petito’s van parked off the road. The couple, who is from Florida, said they took notice because it had Florida plates. They said they saw nobody with the van.

Aug. 27: Petito’s mother receives a text message from the young woman’s phone, but she said she found it odd and is not sure it was from her daughter.

Aug. 30: Petito’s mother receives another text message from the phone, saying only, “No service in Yosemite.”

Sept. 1: Laundrie arrives at his parents’ house in North Port, Florida, having driven home in the van. Petito is not with him. From Jackson to North Port is about 2,500 miles.

Sept. 11: Petito’s parents report her missing.

Sept. 14: Laundrie’s parents say they last saw him on this day, when he left their home with camping gear.

Sept. 17: Laundrie’s parents call the police and report him missing.
