Two surrender after Newark barricade standoff

NEWARK — Two men were in county jail Thursday after their arrests in connection with a domestic standoff, police said

Officers responded around 8:40 a.m. to a residence in the 6100 block of Castillon Drive to stop a man identified as Jaray Washington, 38, of Newark, on a felony firearms arrest warrant and parole violations.

Police said officers managed to take 7-year-old and 17-year-old minors and two women into custody from the residence, but were not initially able to take Washington into custody, despite the establishment of a perimeter and a request for residents to shelter in place, until just before 5:50 p.m.

Police said Washington was arrested on felony no-bail warrants on suspicion of second-degree robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to police, a man identified as Gerrick Waller, 28, of Oakland was also arrested on suspicion of a parole violation tied to felony criminal threats and firearms violations.

Police said they planned to seek additional charges, but county records were not immediately available late Thursday.
