WHITTIER, Calif. — The Latest on a man arrested on suspicion of attacking his wife with a chain saw (all times local):
Authorities have arrested a man they say attacked his wife with a chain saw in front of their three children at their Los Angeles-area home.
Authorities on Thursday arrested 32-year-old Alejandro Alvarez in Chula Vista, a few miles from the Mexican border. Police say he was in an SUV that was stolen after Alvarez’s own vehicle crashed after Wednesday’s attack.
Alvarez could face charges of attempted murder, child endangerment, hit-and-run and grand theft auto. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
Alvarez is suspected of attacking his wife, Gloria Mojica, at their Whittier home, leaving her covered in blood.
KABC-TV reports that the woman was listed in stable condition Thursday and is expected to recover.
Southern California authorities are looking for a man believed to have attacked his wife with a chain saw.
The Whittier Police Department says officers responded Wednesday afternoon to a domestic violence call and found the woman suffering from traumatic injuries believed to have been inflicted by a chain saw.
She was taken to a hospital, but her current condition has not been released.
Police say her husband, 32-year-old Alejandro Alvarez, fled in the family vehicle and crashed into another car, then stole an SUV whose owner had left it running. That vehicle is identified as a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer with blue and tan coloring. Its license plate reads 8ABD233.
A police statement says although the chain saw has been recovered, the suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
