SALT LAKE CITY — Another 857 new COVID-19 cases were reported Friday by the Utah Department of Health, along with 21 additional deaths including 19 that occurred before Feb. 1.

The rolling seven-day average for positive tests is now 803 per day. More than 2.15 million Utahns have been tested for the virus, up 6,535 since Thursday. The total number of coronavirus tests in the state is nearing 3.7 million, with an increase of 17,996 reported Friday.

That puts the rolling seven-day average for the percent of positive tests at 13.6% when multiple tests by an individual within the past 90 days are excluded, and at 6.21% when all test results are included in the calculation, now the state’s preferred method.

There have been 580,051 vaccine doses administered in Utah, including 16,443 since Thursday, when Gov. Spencer Cox announced he was reducing the age that all Utahns are eligible to be vaccinated from 70 years old to 65 earlier than expected.

That change had been planned to take place March 1, when all Utah adults with specified medical conditions are still set to join health care workers, first responders, long-term care facility residents and staffs, K-12 teachers and school staffs and now, Utahns 65 and older.

Utah currently has 255 people hospitalized with COVID-19. The state’s death toll hit 1,834 Friday with the latest deaths reported:
