A clear majority of Scottish people now back independence from the UK according to a new poll.

55% of all voters back independence according to the Ipsos Mori/STV poll with just 39% opposed. Once undecided voters have been stripped out a total of 58% back independence.

The findings come as support for the UK government slumps in Scotland.

The poll found that just 76% of Scots are dissatisfied with the job Boris Johnson is doing as prime minister, with just 19% who are happy with him, giving him a net approval rating of -58.

The poll was conducted by Ipsos MORI between October 2 and October 9 and spoke by telephone to 1045 Scots.
