Think of HR 763 as
chemo for the planet
Years ago, when we were adopting our children, our social worker had one main theme: Don’t let the urgent crowd out the important. Excellent advice, but hard to keep!
I think of it often as our nation pin-balls from crisis to crisis — immigration, wildfires, health care, floods, shootings. … We focus on each new emergency for a few days before it is crowded out by another.
Meanwhile, global warming continues unabated and will make every one of these problems much, much worse.
Just as a cancer patient cannot forego chemo to deal with, say, pneumonia, we simply must lower CO2 emissions in spite of our many other urgencies.

A good first step would be a fee on carbon, with proceeds returned to households to offset increased costs. Tell your representative you support HR 763, the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act. Think of it as chemo for the planet!
