Morning links: Chris Paul says ‘ain’t nobody catching’ Stockton’s assist record; Forbes study finds that Jazz get highest revenue per fan

In Monday night’s 120-104 win over the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets point guard Chris Paul dished out 11 assists, moving him to 8,972 career assists — good for eighth place in the all-time NBA assist leaders. Paul is the only player in the top 10 that is still currently playing (LeBron James checks in at No. 11 with 8,490 — just 35 assists away from cracking the top 10 and passing former Ute Andre Miller, who has 8,524 career assists.)

Paul still has a long way to go before catching the all-time leader in assists — former Jazz point guard John Stockton, who tops the list with an incredible 15,806 assists. Paul would have to rack up 6,835 assists over the rest of his career to beat Stockton’s record.

After the Mavericks game, Paul admitted that he won’t catch Stockton, and included a slight jab at the Jazz’s home scorekeepers.

“I don’t like saying never, but ain’t nobody catching that,” Paul said when asked about Stockton’s record. “I don’t know who the statisticians were, who used to do the stats in Utah, but ain’t nobody catching that.”

Rockets’ Chris Paul moved into 8th place on NBA all-time assist list w/ 8,972 but lamented how far he still is from his goal of unseating John Stockton (15,806) at No. 1: “I don’t like saying never, but ain’t nobody catching that. A user on Reddit did the math on Stockton’s home and away assist splits and found that Stockton averaged 10.88 assists at home and 10.14 assists on the road.
