When top technology companies need to hire a new CEO or board member, where do they turn?
In the battle for top tech talent, knowing the right recruiter can make all the difference, so Business Insider asked industry sources to tell us which headhunters and consultants technology companies call to find the right candidate to fill C-level executive and board vacancies.
Here are nine headhunters you should know to get — or fill — a top job in tech:
Jana Rich, Rich Talent Group
Jana Rich is the founder and CEO of Rich Talent Group, which boasts more than 80 high-profile company clients like Comcast, Square, and Patreon.
Rich launched her career as a managing director at Korn Ferry, one of the largest management consulting firms in the country, and in 2002 began working as the managing director at Russell Reynolds Associates, where she specialized in finding senior-level candidates at tech companies.
Apart from her work at Rich Talent Group, Rich is also co-chair of Women’s 50, a subset of the World 50, which organizes events and networking opportunities for senior-level people at top organizations.
Rob Siegel, a seasoned Silicon Valley venture capital investor and a management lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business said Rich is “unbelievably well-connected.”
“She has been through multiple cycles in the industry and has good context for the needs of her clients,” he told Business Insider.
Gary Constance, Daversa Partners
Gary Constance is a partner at Daversa Partners, which has worked with Airbnb, Pinterest, Snowflake, Etsy, and Uber, among others.
Constance helped AI-powered data platform startup LabelBox in its search for a chief revenue officer, facilitating that search by focusing on the startup’s story and culture, said Labelbox founder and chief operating officer, Brian Riefer.
“Every company has its own DNA, its own culture, its own sort of view of the world, its own trajectory,” he told Business Insider. “Gary spent a lot of time just understanding what we like to do, what’s our culture, what are our values.”
That’s opposed to other headhunters that “focus more on the brand cachet like, ‘Labelbox has Andreessen Horowitz as an investor,'” Riefer said.
While that kind of talking point is important, Constance stands out because he is not only finding “people with really nice LinkedIns” but also less tangible qualities, per Riefer: “Gary was looking for a fit across a sort of a different set of attributes.”
Kyung Yoon, Talent Age Associates
Kyung Yoon is the founder and CEO of Talent Age Associates, a San Francisco-based executive search company.
She’s worked with Silicon Valley Bank, as well as tech startups and nonprofit organizations, and Constellation Research founder Ray Wang calls her “a legend” in the tech industry.
“I’ve known her for 25 years and her networking and personal style is amazing,” he told Business Insider. “She keeps in touch with contacts from the first meeting and is good at identifying high-potentials.”
Joe Riggione, True
Joe Rigionne is co-CEO of True, where he has specialized in executive searches for venture-backed startups as well as emerging growth, and large market capital technology businesses.
